Breathing exercises you can practice with
A free interactive breathing pacer. Pick a pattern and breathe along: equal breath,
the calming extended exhale, box breathing, or the 4-7-8 breath.
Equal breath
Inhale and exhale for the same count, usually four. Balanced and steady — a clean place to start.
Calming breath (extended exhale)
Keep the inhale and lengthen the exhale, for example in for four and out for six. The longer
exhale downshifts the nervous system and is the workhorse breath for settling a class.
Box breathing
Inhale, hold, exhale, hold — four counts each, like tracing a square. A focus tool used to gather
attention before effort.
4-7-8 breath
Inhale for four, hold for seven, exhale for eight. A deeper reset best used near rest, not in the
middle of a heated flow.
