Yoga is a technology: using our tools powerfully and aligned
Yoga itself is a technology, in the older sense of the word: a refined system for traversing our psychology by yoking mind and body. It has methods, prerequisites, and reliable results, like any technical system. Seen this way, the conversation about yoga and modern technology stops being analog versus digital and becomes a question of discernment.
The two camps, both right
Skeptics are right that we should not use technology to replace what genuinely requires our presence: the reps and felt knowledge that only come from doing the work. Enthusiasts are right that the same tools can help us grow and be more efficient and effective, spending our energy where it matters.
A simple test for any tool
Does it replace the work or remove the friction around it? Where does the freed-up energy go? Could you do it without the tool if you had to? There is still real value in the analog and even the little administrivia. If it serves you, use it; if it does not, do not. The practice is the intellectual honesty to discern which is which. These are the most powerful knowledge tools humans have ever built; used with discernment, in service of presence, we can use them powerfully and aligned.
