Over-gripping just makes it harder
A buried anchor, set correctly, holds your full bodyweight; you only have to trust it. People who white-knuckle a rope, a snowboard, or a yoga pose burn their energy on tension they never needed. Leaning away from the challenge, instead of into it, is the move that gets you.
Yoga has a phrase for the alternative: sthira and sukha, steadiness and ease held together (Yoga Sutra 2.46). The work is to find the exact amount of effort a pose needs and let everything else go soft. Trust the structure, and you free up everything you were spending on holding it together.
